Lesson Information
Lesson Overview
Welcome to the most comprehensive and meticulously crafted Paxtial Arts lesson to date.
ART - a key component of the Paxtial Arts - surrounds drawing, music and kinetic forms of expression.
Martial artists often see the human body through the mindsight of chiropractors, acupuncturists or physicians.
Artists see the structure of the human body using shapes, lines, and curves. This unique perspective is key to understanding HOW to manipulate the body kinetically.
One of the greatest advantages a Paxtial Artist has is their understanding of how an artist sees the human form.
About This Lesson
Have you ever looked at a painting or a sculpture and wondered how the artist managed to capture the essence of a person so perfectly? Often, the secret lies in their ability to break-down what they see into fundamental building blocks.
This unique artistic perspective, focusing on underlying two-dimensional shapes like squares, circles, triangles, and ovals, and their three-dimensional counterparts such as cubes, spheres, pyramids, and cylinders, is key to understanding how to manipulate the body kinetically.
This knowledge of how to construct the human form from these basic elements also provides the insight needed to deconstruct it, understanding its underlying structure and vulnerabilities.
This Shapes Lesson introduces you to the tools of the artist's trade. By acquiring a trained artist's eye, you will be able to see shapes in the bodies around them, enabling them to achieve phenomenal kinetic feats.
In this lesson, we'll discover how artists perceive these shapes within the curves of a muscle, the structure of a bone, or the overall posture of a figure.
Study Guide
This three-part lesson sequence in the Sight course begins with the Shapes lesson, which is to be followed by the Lines lesson, and then a lesson called Curves.
Some of the topics and thoughts covered in this 4th lesson of the Sight Course in the Soul Section include:
1. SHAPES
The building blocks of the human form: Shapes, lines and curves will be divided into two parts:
1. Comprehending conceptual thinking
2. Practical application
Required Tools: For the Shapes, Lines, and Curves lessons, you will need to get specific items or tools used by artists. They are as follows.
1. Wood shapes
A set of wood shapes for a perfect 3D reference.
2. Artist’s Mannequin
Option A. A human figure jointed mannequin in order to view the human form in three dimensions.
Option B. Action figures PVC model drawing figure models, female and male.
3. Sketchbook
We suggest a small bound sketchbook or an optional large sketch pad. A sketchbook is the most effective way to understand and document your study of the human form.
4. Drawing Utensils
Pencil 4B to 8B black lead pencils. Drawing pencils can be softer and much smoother. Most people are familiar with the number two pencil, however artist pencils are not categorized the same way. There are two basic lead types, art and soft. Art pencils are for adding details, while soft pencil leads are for when you want a fewer detail. Softer leads are easier to sketch figures with.
A Conté crayon is a soft flat tool, best for drawing curves. Conté artists crayons are distinctly different from regular wax crayons. They come in the square sticks that resemble chalk pastels, they are harder, more vivid and slightly waxy.
Note: These items are available from many suppliers to include Amazon.
2. HUMAN ANATOMY
The importance of anatomical study: When learning martial arts, we are typically taught to study on the side of either basic medical anatomy or Asian acupuncture charts or diagrams:
1. Western Medical Anatomy (M.W.A. Modern Western Medicine.)
2. Eastern acupuncture, pressure points, nerve activations (T.C.M. Traditional Chinese Medicine.)
The reason for that should be quite clear as martial artists deal directly with the human form and there are legal repercussions if you handle your assailant's body in an excessive and reckless way. Having knowledge of major bones nerves arteries and pressure points is highly valuable overall.
There are innumerable mind scope trajectories with which the mind can take aim at when examining the sciences of human anatomy. Pick a point and aim.
1. Osteology – The study of the skeletal system
2. Cardiology – The study of the cardiovascular system
3. Pulmonology – The study of the respiratory system
4. Angiology – The study of the circulatory system
5. Neuroscience – the study of the nervous system
The mining of data found in human anatomy is boundless.
1. Meridians and vital points
2. EFT tapping – Emotional Freedom Technique
For peacemakers, the study of circuit highways running along the meridian points in the human body is a critical tool for the Paxtial Artist's clinical toolbox.
1. Complex Simplicity
In order to create, visualize, and represent the whole picture of a human, we will use Mindsight that is distinctly unique to a master artist. This will lead you to direct and simple concepts and solutions that will uncomplicate the all-too-often in-medical-professions linear approach
3. THE ARTIST’S EYE
It’s not what you see, it’s how you see:
1. Mindsight overload
2. Minding your own Sightgate
3. Shapes of perception, intention, and desire
4. Shaping YOU
5. Controlled observation, careful interpretation, and objective comprehension
6. Line of Sight
7. Energy, Frequency, and Vibration
8. The reality of consciousness
9. Etymology of conscious
10. Consciousness defined
11. Body language
12. Gesture Lines
13.Discernment: Revealing the inner person
Harsher or softer shapes of personality
Opacity of their intelligence or lack thereof
Density of their intentions
14. The shape of ego
15. Self-witnessing
16. Making peace with yourself
17. The artist of you
4. YOU THE PAXTIAL ARTIST
he word art in martial arts is nebulous: Not so with Paxtial Arts. The art part is actually the heart and soul of Paxtial Arts.
1. Leonardo da Vinci and his Vitruvian Man
2. Symmetry and proportion
3. Shapes, lines and curves
4. The importance of your artists eye in your Paxtial Arts toolbelt
5. How to see like an artist so you can construct the human form using shapes
6. The suppressed artist in you

Assignment
Pick Up Your Pencil
In order for us to be successful with drawing, we have to believe that we can actually draw, and that drawing is a skill that can be attained by anyone, including us. So, with that being said, let us move forward armed with this knowledge, and let's make this next exercise super simple.
Exercise 1.1 - 2D Shapes: In your sketch book draw a 2-dimensional
Circle
Square
Triangle
Oval
Exercise 1.2 - 2D Shapes: In your sketch book
Draw as many of these 2-dimensional shapes as can fill a page.
Draw these images multiple times a week.
This is your inside out journey on the path to becoming a Paxtial Artist. Think of your artwork as notes from the mute right side of your brain. Avoid details, just simple scribbles. It's nothing more than shapes, lines, and curves.
Exercise 2.1 - 3-D Shapes: Keep in mind the human form is three dimensional. Now we are going to transform our 2-dimensional shapes into 3-dimensional shapes. In your sketchbook draw a 3-dimensional
Ball
Cube
Pyramid
Cylinder
Exercise 2.1 - 3-D Shapes: In your sketchbook
Draw as many of these as can fill a page.
Draw these images multiple times a week.
This exercise aims to enhance your eye-hand coordination and perception of 3-dimensional objects. Breathe and think relaxed. Remember this is just a simple exercise to help you become more familiar with basic shapes within a three-dimensional environment. If you have wooden shapes then use them. If not, pause and look at each 3D image on the video.
Having an artist eye is incredibly useful in being able to see the parts of the human form, which can, by overlapping artist knowledge with kinetic knowledge, be able to manipulate a body on a mat once we get to the physical lessons. We are teaching you how to see.
Exercise 3 - 2-D Body shapes: In this next exercise
Try to replicate the pose from the video image. The image you see depicts a man in a casual pose.
Use the wooden mannequin to help you achieve the desired pose.
The first step in this exercise is to draw a stick man representing the pose.
Next, you'll superimpose basic shapes on top of the stick figure to create a more detailed representation of the human figure.
Feel free to use any shape you prefer, such as a square for the head, instead of a circle, or rectangles, circles, or oval for body parts.
The key is to learn how to separate the body parts into basic shapes.
Be mindful that there is a joint, like a knee or an elbow, that you should add to a basic shape that matches that body part.
You can even make a circle for the joints if that helps.
Repeat the same exercise but from a side view perspective.
Use your mannequin or find images of full-body people in different poses that you choose.
On your own, repeat this exercise four more times.
Exercise 4 - 3-D Body shapes: In this exercise, you will find 3D body shapes. This is the basics of building a human form. We live in a 3D world.
Look at your wooden mannequin from various angles. You will need this tool.
Pose your mannequin from front, left, back, right, top, and bottom.
Add 3D shapes to your stick figure sketches.
Practice regularly to improve your shape recognition skills.
CONCLUSION: You are only going to get out of this whatever effort you put into it.
Divide your sketchbook into three sections. Shapes, lines, and curves.
Fill the pages with as many examples of each shape you can find.
The more you practice, the better you'll be at recognizing shapes in the human form.
Remember this. Art is a skill, not a talent.
Take your sketchbook wherever you go. When you're waiting in a restaurant, relaxing at home, or wherever you have a free moment, just doodle in your sketchbook.
