Contemplation Journal

Aim Small, Miss Small!

Aim small, miss small is a phrase made popular by two movies, The Patriot and more recently, American Sniper. This means that if you just aim at a target, you may miss the target entirely, but if you focus and aim at a specific bullseye, you may miss it, but still hit the target. In other words, pick a small target on a much larger target. You may miss the intended target initially, but because you have a tighter Margin for Error (in Kenpo speak), the correction needed is much smaller, therefore requiring less effort and delivering a faster result (Economy of Motion).

  • What is your reaction to the scene in the clip from The Last Samurai, A Mans Destiny?

  • Have you had any experiences in your life of new beginnings that were disguised as painful endings? If so, what impact did this have on you, your friends or loved ones?

  • Have you learned anything about yourself from this lesson? If so, what have you learned?

  • Are you starting to feel greater control in your life?

  • How is your Paxtial Arts training changing your outlook on life? Your view of yourself?
